S.299 Safeguarding Against Fraud, Exploitation, Threats, Extremism and Consumer Harms Act (SAFE TECH Act)

The SAFE TECH Act is a proposed bill that would limit Section 230, a part of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, that would make social media companies more accountable for enabling cyber-stalking, targeted harassment, and discrimination on their platforms. Some key points from it are making it clear that Section 230 does NOT apply to ads or other paid content, does not impair the enforcement of civil rights laws, and does not bar wrongful-death actions.
